Senior Fellow - Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment, and Sustainability
Tim Profeta is the founding Director of Duke University’s Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability, where he now serves as a senior fellow. Tim's has long focused on climate change and energy policy in general, and the power sector in particular. Before his return to Duke in 2023, Tim served as the Special Counsel for the Power Sector at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, where he had a lead role in the development of the regulatory and public investment strategy affecting the power sector. Since his return to Duke, Tim has focused on the challenge of load growth in the United States, largely as a result of the expansion of AI, and mechanisms for aligning our nation's climate goals with its economic development ambitions.
