Bridging and Sharing AI Innovation in the Global South
Timeline
Status: In-progress
Description
Background
Historically, the Global North has quickly innovated and left the Global South to play catch up. To ensure there is equitable access to AI resources, the Global South needs to be included in conversations with Global North countries. The potential harms from AI misuse will not respect borders, thus, it is essential that all countries are included in conversations about governance and applications of this technology. Collaboration between the Global North and South can help create a more unified understanding of risks and together the countries can work to create international safety standards. AI has opened multiple doors and revolutionized scientific discovery; thus, it is also important that these resources are made accessible worldwide. Through collaboration, Global North and South stakeholders can share ideas about how to maximize potential benefits and mitigate foreseeable risks. As this technology becomes more accessible worldwide, there must be international conversation about the current state and potential of AI.
